Green Roof Policy Principles, Methods and Case Studies

  • Toronto City Hall, Committee Room #3 100 Queen Street West, 2nd Floor Toronto, ON, M5H 2N2 Canada (map)

Green roofs provide outstanding opportunities for policy makers to address multiple issues in their communities by leveraging roof spaces on new and existing buildings. More than 40 cities across North America have established dedicated green roof policies and counting. These run the gamut from policies such as mandates on new buildings, green building standards, and stormwater regulations, to programs such as grants, tax incentives, and density bonusing. This masterclass will cover the theory and practices of policy implementation. Through case studies, it will provide attendees with an opportunity to learn about the many tools in the policy makers tool box as well as the strategies involved in successful planning and implementation, such as myth busting.

This class is designed for policy makers, politicians, program managers, ENGOs, green roof advocates and researchers.
